finally, teaching for the summer semester is over, and i've had the chance to sit down and read some. yesterday, i worked through many of the dusie chapbooks that i have been receiving. (if you don't know about the project, about 44 poets from around the globe traded off chapbooks printed under the dusie label. the variety and quality of the chapbooks are amazing.)
i also read through/experienced some works (the plasticity of poetry, telling time, shifting landscapes, bird book, and sommarhuset) by jessica smith. all quite interesting. reading through the works themselves becomes a task in learning how to read them since the pieces come in such a variety, with the typical left right reading pattern often thwarted. upon opening sommarhuset, one is faced with mixed pieces, from cloth to wallpaper (i think) to print--that makes one think about the nature of experiencing poetry. these works are exciting to experience and intriguing in the questions they provoke.
