really, heraclitus is behind it all. he's there in eliot, yeats, and olson (i'd like to write something critical about his presence in olson). similar ideas to his show up in taoism (some interesting essays have already been written about this idea). similar ideas show up in many parts of the globe. just today during class in discussing a poem from the manyoushu, i thought about heraclitus. i mentioned it briefly before moving on, but that's what remained with me.

ultimately, i'm looking for the outward, for the dispersal of meanings, for drifts and flows, creation and destruction, dichotomies and chaos (ah, chaos the ancient father). give me process perhaps pixelated. that's where heraclitus is for me.
