those of you who thought americans could not be controlled through fear and ignorance, welcome to the world of doublespeak.
this day is one of those days on which i feel wholly unamerican. not that i was a fan of john kerry. i have long been a proponent of a polykindic rule, for as george washington said, having only two political parties is injurious for the nation; morever, i’ve long been a proponent of a strong green party, but today i had to ask myself if i understand the nature of this beast that i live within. have we become so intoxicated with capitalism that we cannot see beyond the bounds of our immediate families? have we become a trivial people incapable of handling complexity? have we forgotten that freedom is one of humanity’s most fragile concepts, one that cannot be forced on top of other ideologies and cannot suffer infractions to its very nature? ah, was huxley’s vision of the future more on target than i’ve been willing to admit?
like a doctor looking at a cancerous patient, the question now is do i let this person die in peace or do i help wage a battle against something deadly at the core?
