snow is falling softly outside, but i barely notice it. this morning i bought a mini-painting of lord vishnu and am thinking about the necessity of a god who orders reality by filtering out desire. we only see what is real when we have an ordering system through which to see it as real. automatically i think of language theory with such a conception, i.e. we can only order through a language system and thus only see reality through our language constructs. such ordering systems profoundly other people who exist in different language systems, but this only partially relates to vishnu who creates reality for all. still, i don’t feel very hopefully for meaningful cross-cultural communication when i think of different systems colliding. perhaps i am being pessimistic since language/cultural systems colliding can form hybrids that create new and more inclusive realities.
