question: what can be done to spice up the traditional poetry reading? besides taking clothing off, what else could make things more exciting? with the series that i am curating, i've tried pairing very different readers together; i've tried having readers alternate while reading; i have a band coming in as a backup for a reader soon. i've also thought about some of the readings that i've read at that were fun like Reading Under the Influence--a series where, as the name suggests, a lot of drinking occurs, but at such a series, the reading becomes secondary to the literary scene.

i'd like to hear everyone's comments, but since the comment boxes here do not facilitate discussion, nor does sending your comments just to my e-mail address, i've started a wiki dedicated to dealing with audience issues. if you want to join in this discussion or want to add some topic or your own, feel freel to do so. i'm going to try to leave it fairly unmoderated for now.
