(thinking about ray's comments) in actuality i'm a tall, youngish, slender guy. i'm trying to think why my poetry would give off the feel of a huge guy. is this good in an olson way? (if that is good.) or does it mean my work is heavy handed? this leads me to thinking of imaging poets visually off of their work. silly topic, but of course something i do. the first time i saw a picture of anselm hollo, he looked almost exactly like i had imagined him. moreover, some poets gain stature by how i imagine them. take leopardi. i imagine him hunched over a desk in dim light in recanati, italia. i see sor juana as a slender but beautiful woman trapped in a convent. then again, right now i am floating in e non-being space so i suppose i can claim anything i want about myself. (i'll give you a hint. i'm in this picture from gabe gudding's reading in chicago.)
