three days ago i heard marco standid read from his new collection, artispolis in atlanta. incredible. i thought i was back listening to olson. i don't just mean that because marco was a big guy with a booming voice, but his work was epic in the microcosmic sense of maximus. in contrast to olson, his work is more heavily critical of consumer culture; plus, it is laced with quotations from paul virilio and giles deleuze, which he pronounced as du-luzz-ah. i'm almost ashamed of myself for not having read his earlier collection (like keats in that damn poem about peaks and darien and chapman's homer.)
