today was the first day of sailing for me this season. it was cold and rainy. after I rode my bike home, I spent time walking through the tree-lined streets of my neighborhood feeling lonely, wondering if the years ahead are just empty space. I feel as if I am becoming a museum piece in a section seldom visited.

on a happier note, peter gizzi’s Some Values of Landscape and Weather arrived in today’s mail. the rich lyric quality of it is amazing. already I feel wrapped up in individual lines, as if they are important to me personally as something found that was already known before. reading his work reminds me of the first time I read work by abu-l-hasan ibn al-qabturnuh. both present a pristine lyric quality in their work.
