Pierre Joris points us to a list of the Ten Most Harmful Books of the 19th and 20th century by a group of conservative thinkers. Having been a liberal at an extremely conservative (but quite good) university, I find this list confusing. I remember being in classrooms with budding conservatives who were comfortable discussing Marx, Nietzsche, Mill, or Dewey. While I often disagreed with their perspectives, I did respect their rights to have different opinions than me and was glad that they were engaging in discussion. Thus, when I see a list that attempts to keep people from even discussing diverse opinions, I am disgusted. When we cannot discuss a wide range of ideas in America, we should either say goodbye to freedom or stand up and fight for it.
