theognis writes:

I perceive much that passes by, but keep
Silence; I must, knowing my lack of power.

i’ve just been looking at images from darfur (http://www.ushmm.org/conscience/alert/darfur/steidle/).
entire villages are burning. bodies are resting in the grave.
young children are wounded.

i have only words to act with, and my letters to
my governmental representatives seems hopeless.
i don't have money to give for someone else to go make
the good fight, and i don't think it would do much
good for me to pack up shop and move there in
an attempt to solve the problem.

theognis, while contemplating a far different situation,
expresses what i feel about the my role, yet even as
i write this, in my ears i hear the words of Neruda:
"We poets hate hatred and make war on war."

i do not know how to fight this war except by
asking others to get involved. for info, check out
sites like http://www.savedarfur.org.
