the ron silliman and stacy szymaszek reading yesterday was quite good. i had never heard anything about szymaszek, even though she is only in milwaukee, a short drive from chicago. enjoyable work, filled with images of sailing in the past. perhaps that is why when silliman began reading just afterwards, i was reminded of a person that i have sailed with frequently--close physical resemblance. anyway, while his voice is still fresh in my head, i need to go back and read some of his work. i think it will resonate even more.

i also picked up the winter issue of Near South, a local poetry magazine. the winter issue contains work by Andrew Lundwall, Sheila Murphy, Michael Anania, kari edwards, D. J. Huppatz, Clayton Eshleman, John Bennett, and many others. It also has an interesting collaborative fiction piece by at least twelve writers.
