how much does regional writing play in the poetry scene of today?

that’s my question from listening to ray bianchi (author of circular descent) tell hermine meinhard (author of light turquoise umbrella) of the distinct poetry factions of chicago. in an odd way, the conversation reminded me of dante’s critique of factions from de monarchia. perhaps we are all talking past each other following strange music.

all of this reminds me of a line from andrei codrescu’s “against meaning:” “Everything I do is against meaning.” (please don’t ask why i’m reminded of this line. sometimes lines just seem to emerge from the air.)
