The Daily Glance (The Kollectiv Series)
Lynn Behrendt's This is the Story of Things that Happened has a cover straight out of Bambi, complete with deer, skunk, rabbit, and birds, and it contains one long poem that appears rather straightforward in structure and in language, but it is ultimately one gigantic contradiction. It reminds me of Eugenio Montale's "non chiederchi." Even the title is vague. "Things that Happened"--what things? What is a thing? Could this apply to anything? Behrendt repeats the following lines in the poem" "This is not a story about" and "This is a story about." The list becomes so long with both that it is difficult to tell if this story is about anything specific.
This is a story about a story
about social change.
Are we in a meta world of poetry--of poetry with a story? Is there a story of just statements here?
