The Daily Glance (The Kollectiv Series)

Marthe Reed and j/j hastain's post*cards::Lafayette a Lafayette is a short chapbook of postcard poems sent back and forth between Lafayette, Colorado and Lafayette, Louisiana. I'm not always a fan of postcard collections, but this one seems to work well. One, they both write a short postcard about their experiences writing the collection. I found these little notes fascinating. Two, they bounce themes off of each other well. The poems seem largely about the body, what constitutes a gendered body, how the body and language relate, and how identity is found or not found in the body and language. As these ideas are themes in j/j hastain's work, I was not surprised, but they seemed heightened in the poetic conversation with Marthe.

Hastain:

humans are congealed desire in
desperate pursuit of form

Reed:

refusing to yield
an irrevocable pact
she seeks lost objects
