in the mail today i received the first issue of a journal out of baltimore called ambit. it contains a nice collection of poets that i'm familiar with and some that i don't know but would like to now. the journal has a heavy experimental slant, experimental in the post-language tradition; it also has many jazz inspired/infused poems. monk shows up more than once, and one of my jazz favorites, mingus, is mentioned. besides that, the journal starts off with two excellent pieces by francis raven. i like his work more and more with time. nice journal—definitely worth paying attention to as it develops in its next issues. to whomever sent it to me, thanks.
