i was at northwestern univ yesterday for a reading during the asian-american conference. i went primarily to listen to mei-mei berssenbrugge and brian kim stefans, and they were both worth the trip, especially brian kim stefans. he's a very energetic reader, and his work is filled with humor that comes out best when he reads. tan lin was also there reading. i was not familar with his work, but i enjoyed it quite a lot. after hearing him read, i could tell that we share many influences.

on a side note, i was a little dismayed at the audience that showed up. it was a decent size, but it was mostly composed of participants in the conference, even though the poetry reading was open to the public. i wonder why poets who usually show up at experiemental poetry readings were not there?
