The Daily Glance
Aaron Belz's The Bird Hoverer relies on humor for much of its staying power. He brings in popular stars and literary figures: Whitman, Meryle Streep, Ben Affleck, Puskin, Tim Burton, etc. . . . For example, his "For Ben Affleck's Daughter" tells Ben Affleck's daughter about the hotness of her father. Some of the poems work on poetic cliches or exaggeration, like the hyperbolic rhymes of several poems. Ultimately, there's a vibrant intelligence behind these poems, and the poems are the type that would work well at a reading. They are narrative and funny, and they're full of quirky punches.
