The Daily Glance

C. S. Giscombe's Prairie Style explores the geography of the Midwest as it mingles with history and memory. It's the Olsonian tradition alive in the Midwest, though it has shed the far distant historical myths for American ones. Giscombe writes space as few others can. In fact, the only poet I know who comes close is Garin Cycholl. Giscombe's prose poems sweep in all things as they move--race, place, music, history. "Everybody wants to be the singer, but here's the continent" and "Location's what you come to; it's the low point, it usually repeats."
