The Daily Glance

Joel Chace's Cleaning the Mirror: Selected and New Poems shows the wide range of Chace's poetry. Central to this collection is a love of language, for Chace pushes what language can do by shifting contexts and playing with form. Not much seems off limits for him, and while these poems deal with a wide variety of topics, it feels like the same hand is behind them all.

he kept cleaning

cleaning the mirror kept

finding himself knew

if he kept cleaning he'd

find the new way to

move wouldn't

pose just kept cleaning found

the new waves that

ocean those sheets of

sound

Reading through this selected collection, I'd like to go back through his works and see what he left out. The works included in this one tie together almost as if part of a long poem.
