The Daily Glance

Sandra Doller's Chora is a well-craft, musical book. Many of the pieces are lyrics with short lines, and while they are not necessarily narrative, they follow bending lines of thought.

i am not talking about the sand
are not Wanting to not sit in the window
watching quintain

i wore a slouch
i Hear fine
i misheard the gestural soliloquy

i miss nothing

These lines are disconnected, but at the same time, I am able to follow a brief trace of thought through them. I don't think this process just me assimilating them into a reading, and I like to think there is something holding the core of these pieces together. Beyond this, Doller brings in a Quaker theme primarily through some prose poems. This shows up on the cover image, but the theme is not an overwhelming presence in the book.
