A Daily Glance
Justin Marks' You Being You By Proxy is a talk-oriented book. The poems are fairly narrative, though some of them seem to be a streamed consciousness talking to us, not to himself. An undercurrent of forgetting memory or trying to forget it is present in the book, and the "I" of the book seems to exist through thinking. By that, I mean the "I" seems to be searching but is fairly comfortable in presenting himself though wandering. Daily things, like being on an airplane or listening to traffic, filter into the poem along with central human concerns, such as questions about life and suffering. These pieces seem to work best as individual pieces rather than as part of the collective chapbook.
