A Daily Glance

Rob mclennan’s Poems for Lainna is primarily a chapbook that charts the distance between two lovers and the longing of one of the lovers. The pieces contain a wide variety of references, from repeatedly mentioning Odysseus’ story to contemporary events like the Stanley Cup finals. This brief chapbook contains several pieces that seem excellent to me, such as “poem of small devices.” It jumps around quite a bit, but it’s jumping is such that we can follow it, and it leads to insight. Many of the poems work on a similar formula, and mclennan pulls it off in a way that many other poets could not.
