The Daily Glance

Adam Strauss' Nation-State comments on the U.S., plays with parody, uses language that feels found, and tries to shock.  Still, the thing that interests me the most about the book is the sound.  Strauss uses a lot of alliterative language, so much so that I think I would like to hear him read some of the poems.  Beyond that, he shifts his language use quite a bit, from rather straight narrative pieces to fragmented short pieces.  That is slightly jarring when reading the entire book but not so much in reading the individual pieces.

I wish to sit–
Rapt–
In a horse’s
Amniotic sack,
Take a few licks,
Then lay, hug
My soul, dear hick.

Years late, true-true; but nonetheless--thank you for this!
