The Daily Glance

Tim Gaze's symbols reminds me much of his other asemic writing. He tells us in the introduction that the book is composed of "atomic or perhaps subatomic pieces of writing." Essentially he has taken the building blocks of writing systems or symbol systems down to their basic lines for us. In doing this activity, he reminds me of what Franz Kline did with the line in art. As such, I do not look for meaning in this text as much as an enjoyment of seeing the symbols alone and of thinking of how the pieces make me focus on the micro elements of symbolic systems. In other words, I don't feel like I read his pieces as much as experience them.
