The Daily Glance
Chris Glomski's Eidolon probably refers to Walt Whitman's "Eidolons" but it definitely pushes back to the Greek notion of a phantom or image of something, as we see in the poem "An Idea." This short chapbook is well-crafted and interesting. It plays with narrative, syntax, and language. The opening poem, "Just the Thing," is my favorite, for it follows what seems like a personal train of thought as it jumps around from "high" culture to Lubriderm.
Just the thing
would be
a book
on which the rain
fell voluptuously
as in
IL PLEUT
the cover painted
profile of
Apollinaire
avec pipe Above
it things taped to
the wall the better
to remember . . .
It also helps that this chapbook was published by Answer Tag, a press that puts out chapbooks with beautifully printed covers.
